About 8.8 Design 8.8 design is a multi-discipline design studio, owned and operated by Carly Yates, a graduate of Parsons School of Design, where she focused on product and furniture design. Growing up, she had early exposure to design through her family's contracting and renovation company. Carly gained an in depth understanding of project management and construction techniques which lead to her first custom home design at age 23, project completed in 2004. After receiving her BA from Parsons, Carly worked for VRID llc, a Brooklyn based design firm. It was there she began to focus on interior architecture, design, and décor. During the early part of her career, she traveled around the world for over 2 years, seeking the knowledge of which elements in design transcend time and distance. From ancient structures in India, to the latest contemporary design show in Milan or Japan, she looked for the common parallels that make up well composed design that one could take and translate into any surrounding. After settling back down in Brooklyn, she re-integrated into the New York design world by becoming the interior designer for Cube-Fabulous, a reality design show and working for Apartment Therapy, a trend setting and influential web based interior design firm. At Apartment Therapy, she worked as a designer and project manager for large-scale NYC apartment renovations. Under the tutelage of its owner Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, she fine tuned her skills as an interior designer. She learned to encompass all aspects of home renovation from interior architecture, to subtle color palettes that change a room’s atmosphere. Carly places the needs, budget and aesthetic of the client above all else. One of her strengths is introducing new ideas and styles that truly reflect the client’s identity. |
